Farmall M Image Gallery 3

This image gallery contains photos of the Farmall M with the newly restored Massey-Ferguson backhoe installed. Note that the backhoe is not compatible with the Farmall M without considerable modification. The frame and mounting system was significantly modified. The hydraulic pump and oil tank was also modified. Restoration of the backhoe was a major undertaking; without the help of a machinist friend, this project may not have been possible!

The Farmall M with the Massey-Ferguson backhoe installed. At front is a 500 pound counterweight (later increased to 900 pounds). The counterweight was needed to offset the 2000 pound weight of the backhoe.

Another view of the Farmall M with the backhoe installed. The counterweight system is not finished, needs some additonal welding and fabrication work plus a paint job. It is however sufficient to test the backhoe's performance

One more view of the Farmall M with the Massey-Ferguson backhoe unit. This is a long piece of machinery; nearly 30 feet long!

Test driving the Farmall M in the field to get the feel of the extra load. Note the additonal counterweight up front (total = 900 pounds, still a bit shy).

A first test of the newly restored backhoe: ripping out a 16" diameter stump (hidden behind the bucket). In this photo the backhoe breaks ground for the first time in a long time!. A Power King tractor with dual rear wheels is partially seen in the background.

The backhoe is making very short work of what would have been a royal pain to do by hand!.

Done. The Massey-Ferguson backhoe (powered by the Farmall M) has eliminated the stump with remarkable ease. This machine has some serious power!
